The Palace of the Golfines de Abajo was finished in the 16th century by Sancho de Paredes Golfín, waiter of Queen Isabel la Católica and is one of the most emblematic of the city.
On the ground floor visitors will take a chronological tour from the rooms decorated in the nineteenth century to the Hall of Arms, or Hall of Lineages, with an interesting Renaissance pictorial set commissioned by the Waiter Sancho de Paredes Golfín, dedicated to extolling the lineage of the Golfines, through a gallery of portraits of the first eight members of the dynasty.
On the top floor, the criterion of the visit is thematic, with rooms devoted to daily life, leisure, hunting and a chapel. Visitors can also contemplate on that floor a selection of some original documents of the Historical Archive of the Foundation, which is currently in the Palace for digitization and cataloging. Among the documents selected are cedulas of the Catholic Monarchs, Queen Juana and her son Carlos I.
The museum project of the Palace has been directed by a group of expert historians of the University of Extremadura formed by Pilar Mogollón, Rosa Perales, Teresa Terrón and María Antonia Pardo.
